This is a blog entry with the sort of music that I haven't been in touch with for years. I used to be a big fan of hip hop and rap, but you know, as you grow your music taste changes drasticly and so did mine, obviously. Lately I seem to be returning to the roots. A lot of music I listen to is partially connected to hip hop.
I came across Foreign Beggars on a compilation (already mentioned before) "Ministry Of Sound - The Sound Of Dubstep - Worldwide 2011" and loved it. Then I found out they're performing in Seville on friday. A great chance to discover the unknown!
They have a lot of material. Maybe a little too much for me to handle at once. But two albums have proven enough so far. "Assylum Agenda" from 2008 and "United Colours Of Beggattron" from 2009. They collaborate with a lot of foreign artists (one of them is Toteking from Seville). The more I listen to them, the less idea I have which songs to post. I kind of hate it when an artist has too many good songs.
Anyway, they're quite diverse. They can make pure hip hop or nutty dubstep (Skrillex, Noisia). Their audience might part here, but nevertheless, everyone gets something.
I really can't wait to see which way they will turn more live... I prefer their not-so-usual stuff. But all is good!
I wrote about Gil-Scott Heron before but only as a collaboration with Jamie xx. Jamie re-produced the whole Heron's album "I'm New Here" that was released in 2010 and named it "We're New Here". I had never heard of Heron before (even though he seems to be a legend) and never really took time to listen to the original. Well, I did last night and it is surprisingly different to what I expected. Jazzy but with a twist. With great lyrics. Take a listen.
Throwing Snow is yet another great producer from London. It feels like he doesn't get nearly as much attention as he should. His style is very similar to Jamie xx's and some songs are freaking amazing, right what I've been looking for lately. A great post-dubstep example that I seem to have difficulties finding. I'm such a newbie.
Here is his collaboration with talented Py. Mind-blowing! I'll be returning to his work very soon.
The weirdest name I've come across lately that I can't seem to remember, but a holder of the most memorable music I've heard in the past few months. Indie folk mixed with electronic music is probably one of the best combinations for me. As both genres are amongst my favourites you can't even begin to imagine the joyfulness going off in my ears.
Tonight I'm going to miss another great live show, this time by London Elektricity. Lately drum and bass has been filling me with positivity and happiness (music can do wonders) and this musician is pretty responsible for that. Easy going music, soothing for the ears and with Elsa Esmeralda's voice pretty close to perfection.
I had to stop to take a deep breath when I heard about them performing together. The best possible combination. And I will miss it. I wish you could understand the horrible depression I'm going through... *tear*
I spent the whole afternoon laying under the warmest sun and bluest sky listening to these three: Nathan Fake, Mount Kimbie and Panda Bear. What a perfect december day. If only I could share it with you!
