This is a blog entry with the sort of music that I haven't been in touch with for years. I used to be a big fan of hip hop and rap, but you know, as you grow your music taste changes drasticly and so did mine, obviously. Lately I seem to be returning to the roots. A lot of music I listen to is partially connected to hip hop.
I came across Foreign Beggars on a compilation (already mentioned before) "Ministry Of Sound - The Sound Of Dubstep - Worldwide 2011" and loved it. Then I found out they're performing in Seville on friday. A great chance to discover the unknown!
They have a lot of material. Maybe a little too much for me to handle at once. But two albums have proven enough so far. "Assylum Agenda" from 2008 and "United Colours Of Beggattron" from 2009. They collaborate with a lot of foreign artists (one of them is Toteking from Seville). The more I listen to them, the less idea I have which songs to post. I kind of hate it when an artist has too many good songs.
Anyway, they're quite diverse. They can make pure hip hop or nutty dubstep (Skrillex, Noisia). Their audience might part here, but nevertheless, everyone gets something.
I really can't wait to see which way they will turn more live... I prefer their not-so-usual stuff. But all is good!
I wrote about Gil-Scott Heron before but only as a collaboration with Jamie xx. Jamie re-produced the whole Heron's album "I'm New Here" that was released in 2010 and named it "We're New Here". I had never heard of Heron before (even though he seems to be a legend) and never really took time to listen to the original. Well, I did last night and it is surprisingly different to what I expected. Jazzy but with a twist. With great lyrics. Take a listen.
Throwing Snow is yet another great producer from London. It feels like he doesn't get nearly as much attention as he should. His style is very similar to Jamie xx's and some songs are freaking amazing, right what I've been looking for lately. A great post-dubstep example that I seem to have difficulties finding. I'm such a newbie.
Here is his collaboration with talented Py. Mind-blowing! I'll be returning to his work very soon.
The weirdest name I've come across lately that I can't seem to remember, but a holder of the most memorable music I've heard in the past few months. Indie folk mixed with electronic music is probably one of the best combinations for me. As both genres are amongst my favourites you can't even begin to imagine the joyfulness going off in my ears.
Tonight I'm going to miss another great live show, this time by London Elektricity. Lately drum and bass has been filling me with positivity and happiness (music can do wonders) and this musician is pretty responsible for that. Easy going music, soothing for the ears and with Elsa Esmeralda's voice pretty close to perfection.
I had to stop to take a deep breath when I heard about them performing together. The best possible combination. And I will miss it. I wish you could understand the horrible depression I'm going through... *tear*
I spent the whole afternoon laying under the warmest sun and bluest sky listening to these three: Nathan Fake, Mount Kimbie and Panda Bear. What a perfect december day. If only I could share it with you!
I fell in love with Pretty Lights as soon as I heard it for the first time ever. The song was called Finally Moving (which was by the way recently ripped off by Flo Rida and turned into "his own" song called "Good Feeling"). I am sure I will return back to his music in the future and include it in my posts again. It's so relaxing, especially (I have to say this) on my evening walks around one of the most beautiful cities - Sevilla. Pretty perfect.
I have difficulties choosing only a few songs again. Well, these are off album "Taking Up Your Precious Time".
I came across a remixed version of Andreya Triana's song 'A Town Called Obsolete' in an (in previous post) already mentioned compilation by Ministry Of Sound: Dubstep Worldwide. I then looked a bit more into her stuff and here it is. She also collaborated with the great Bonobo on the album 'Black Sands'.
Have a chilly evening.
ANDREYA TRIANA - A TOWN CALLED OBSOLETE (MALA REMIX)
FLYING LOTUS FT. ANDREYA TRIANA - TEA LEAF DANCERS
I don't listen to Baths' music a lot. But each time I do I'm always surprised by how detailed and "juicy" it is. Yes, juicy. It can be "heavy" to some ears but listen to it and you'll see what I mean. The first three are off the album 'CERULEAN'.
Also there are two lovely remixes by Baths at the bottom.
Here's a website that suggests you a drink to go with the music you're listening to. Type in the artist and you will find out. Drinkify, ladies and gentlemen.
A little cover of WICKED GAME to go with this game.
WASHED OUT
I've loved this song by Jamie Woon since I first heard it a few months ago. But now I completely fell in love with this amazing remix by DJ Wakes. Damn, it's good!
P.S.: It's a free download!
Agnes Obel caught my ear months ago. She believes that piano and voice when making music are equal instruments therefore she uses them wisely. Breathtaking dreamy melodies out of a fantasy. Yet again I'm having a problem choosing only a few songs as the whole album 'Philharmonics' is quite perfect.
When I first heard The XX I was not too thrilled about it. It bored me a lot. But after a few listens I realised how minimalistic music can sound even better. I fell in love with their music. And when I looked more into them I found out about Jamie XX, one of the hottest producers in the UK right now. Jamie is god in (my) music world. So give him a chance!
Since I am very far from home right now, I find a special meaning in songs about home. There have been a lot recently. And all these are very special, each in their own way.
Every now and then I seem to pleasently surprise my friends with the music I listen to. I love sharing music because music makes me happier than most other things. And sometimes I feel the need to share all the love with others. There are some great artists and songs out there that everyone should get a chance to hear. And here I will post the - to me - very special tunes.
This sunny and very warm sunday was a great day to chill out with one of my favourite artists Washed Out and his album 'Within And Without'. It is so hard to only choose a couple of songs, but if I had to, I guess I would choose these. I've had the album on repeat since july when it came out and it's still probably my favourite album so far.
